Greetings from LSERS

Welcome to the December Edition of LSERS’ Employer eNews. We hope everyone had a very Merry Christmas and wish you a Happy New Year! We are interested in how helpful this eNews is to our recipients and have provided a Satisfaction survey link for your feedback. Online Entry Errors for Enrollment and Termination

If an employer should happen to enter incorrect information when enrolling or terminating an employee online, please do not attempt to correct the erroneous information through LSERSWeb. The incorrect information cannot be resolved through LSERSWeb and needs to be corrected by LSERS staff.  LSERS asks that you please contact Chenfei Zhou at 225.925.6492, or 1.800.256.3718 if outside the Baton Rouge calling area, or by email at czhou@lsers.net .

We Need your Help

Our retirement applicants anticipate receiving a final benefit amount and retroactive payments within 2 – 3 months after their effective date.  To achieve this goal, it would be extremely helpful if employers could try to have all requested certifications (Form 10A Employer Certification and Form 5 Service Credit Verification) in to LSERS as quickly as possible once requested.  If assistance is needed to expedite submissions, please contact the LSERS staff member who requested the certification.  If you have a recommendation about how  furnishing the certifications could be made more efficient, we ask that you please email Michelle Bridges at mbridges@lsers.net .
 

Did You Know?

In lieu of refunding, a vested member may elect to leave their accumulated contributions in LSERS and begin drawing benefits upon reaching age 60 or age 62 if enrolled on or after July 1, 2015.A member is considered “vested” when he or she has:
  • 10 years of service credit if enrolled on or before June 30, 2010, or
  • 5 years if enrolled on or after July 1, 2010
A vested member must waive their right to a benefit before they can be refunded.  Therefore, if a vested member is requesting a refund, please notify LSERS immediately upon receipt of the refund application.  LSERS will calculate the benefit and send the vested member a form that must be notarized and returned to LSERS before a refund can be issued.
