Welcome to the July Edition of LSERS’ Employer eNews! Included in this issue is the memo for frequently asked questions regarding Unfunded Accrued Liability. I also want to remind employers of the September 1st deadline to report critical shortages of bus drivers.  I encourage you to contact our knowledgeable staff to assist you with any questions or concerns.

FY 2017-18 is here!

Thanks to all employers who timely resolved their salary and contributions exceptions by the due date.  Because of your efforts, LSERS successfully closed FY 2016-17 on time.
Effective July 1, 2017, the employer contribution rate increased by three tenths of a point to 27.6%. There is no change for the member rate which remains at 7.5% or 8% if first enrolled on or after July 1, 2010.
  
Starting this Fiscal Year
Our new online Salary Contribution Reporting and Corrections Form will be available on LSERS website in early August. This new form replaces three archived forms, Contribution Corrections Form, Salary Uploads Form and Salary Contributions Form. You can find the webinar and the procedures on LSERS.net

September 1st Deadline for Reporting Critical Shortage of Bus Drivers

Each school year the school board must meet the requirements of La. R.S. 11:1007 by September 1 before enrolling RTW retirees under the critical bus driver shortage provisions.

School systems experiencing a critical shortage of qualified bus drivers for the 2017-18 school year must certify the shortage to the Louisiana Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) to qualify for hiring under the provisions of La. R.S. 11:1007.

Questions and Answers about Personnel Actions Causing Liability for UAL

Annual Questionnaire on Eliminating Positions (formerly Privatization)Please remember that all school systems must complete an annual questionnaire covering the period through the preceding fiscal year regarding elimination of positions through privatizing, outsourcing, contracting the service with a private employer, or any other means. The Annual Questionnaire is now available online. The information contained within the questionnaire should be certified by the School System Superintendent and returned to LSERS on or before October 2, 2017.

Don't Forget to Update Your Authorized Contacts

Form 1 – Authorized Signatures and Employer Contacts  

To expedite new and current staff access to LSERSWeb,
do the following:
  • Check all desired access rights when completing a Form 1 for a new staff member. 
  • Proper signature on the form are required for new staff members who will be “authorized signers”. 
  • If replacing or deleting previous designated personnel, include the name in the designated field. 
  • If authorizing additional access rights to an existing staff member, be sure to include both the previous access rights and the new access rights on the new Form 1.
Remember, submitting updated authorized contact changes in a timely manner ensures your agency's access rights remain current and valid.
