            Retiree Return to Work (RTW) under La. R.S. 11:1007  Critical Shortage of Full-Time Bus Operators
                

Important reminder for upcoming FY 2020-21:
  1. Certify to the Board of Elementary and Secondary Education (BESE) that there is a shortage of qualified bus operators.
  2. RTW1007 can only be enrolled between July 1 and August 31, 2020!  Upload valid declaration when enrolling.
  3. A template of the declaration which contains the requirements for submission can be found in the online procedure for Retiree Return-to-Work Enrollment. 
  4. The declaration MUST be signed by the Agency Head/Superintendent AND the Retiree.
  5. Report monthly salary & contributions. 
    • 8% Contribution Rate
    • Unsheltered contribution type

Retirement Annual Salary (RET) File – Due August 15, 2020

It’s time to prepare again! For the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020, all school systems must submit a retirement salary file to LSERS by August 15, 2020.

The uploaded salary file should reflect employees who are LSERS members and their related annual earnings*. The data file layout can be located here - on page 7.

*Please do not include bus operators' operating expense reimbursements, as those reimbursements are not subject to retirement contributions.

Effective Date of Retirement

According to the La. R.S. 11:1141, a member’s effective date of retirement is either the day after the member’s employment is terminated or the day the member’s application is received by LSERS, whichever is later. This effective date rule applies to the Application for Service Retirement, IBRP, or DROP (Form 10), the Application for Retirement After DROP (Form 10C), and the Application for Disability Retirement (Form 12). Please assist us in making your employees aware of the importance of submitting their retirement applications in a timely manner to avoid unexpected gaps between employment and retirement. Applications can be mailed, emailed, or faxed to LSERS.

Update on LSERS’ Operations during COVID-19
 

While LSERS’ building remains closed to the public, we are otherwise operating normally.

The Governor is expected to announce phase two of the reopening plan on June 1st. We will notify our members of the Governor's Phase Two plan and impacts on agency operations in a Special Edition eNews. 

And, as always, we appreciate and welcome any and all comments, as this helps
us identify ways to make improvements for you and provide better service to our
members and employers. Feel free to provide feedback and suggestions using
the LSERS Satisfaction Survey on our "Contact Us" page on the LSERS website.
